Transsexualism Sexual Disorder
Transsexualism Information
Transsexualism is a condition in which a person experiences a discontinuity between their assigned sex and what they feel their core gender is.
This conviction which is accompanied by a profound sense of loathing for individuals's own primary and secondary sexual characteristics, is absolute, overwhelming and unalterable.
Transsexual men and women make or desire to make a transition from their birth sex to the opposite sex/gender, often with some type of medical alteration ( sex reassignment therapy ) to their body.
Harry Benjamin's Syndrome is an intersex biological condition developed in the early stages of pregnancy affecting the process of sexual differentiation between male and female. Transsexualism or, more appropriately, gender dysphoria is a worldwide phenomenon, not limited to Western societies.
Causes of Transsexualism
There is no scientifically proven cause of transsexualism.
This happens when the brain develops as a certain sex but the rest of the body takes on the physical characteristics of the opposite sex.
In the transsexualism study, the researchers examined a repeat sequence in each of three genes known to affect the sexual development of the brain, in hopes that one or more of these might shed light on transsexualism.
Is transsexualism the same as homosexuality?
No. Transsexualism is about a person's core sense of their gender. This is a separate issue from the gender of the people they are attracted to.
Transsexualism Treatment and Medication
For transsexual men and women, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) causes the development of many of the secondary sexual characteristics of their desired gender.
