Transvestic Fetishism Sexual Disorder
Transvestic Fetishism Information
Transvestic fetishism, fetishistic transvestism and sometimes transvestism are also often used to describe any sexual behaviour or arousal that is in any way connected to clothes of the other gender.
Transvestic fetishism is diagnosed in heterosexual males who experience "recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving cross-dressing" (American Psychiatric Association, 1994). A distinction is drawn between transvestism (cross-dressing) and transvestic fetishism.
Causes of Transvestic Fetishism
A number of studies have been published examining psychosocial causes of transvestic fetishism but most have serious methodological flaws that limit drawing confident conclusions. Some such studies suggest that adolescents with transvestic fetishism tendencies may have a history of separation from and hostility towards their mothers.
Symptoms of Transvestic Fetishism
This diagnosis is used for heterosexual males who have sexually arousing fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving cross-dressing (wearing female clothing).
Transvestic Fetishism Treatment and Medication
Treatment of Transvestic Fetishism typically involves psychotherapy aimed at uncovering and working through the underlying cause of the behavior.
